Did Chili on Bluey have a miscarriage?
There’s a lot of talk on social media and on blogs about whether or not Chili had a miscarriage.
The popular children’s show doesn’t shy away from difficult parenting topics, which is why many parents haven’t found it a stretch that the show would give a nod to the struggles of pregnancy loss.
There are 2 episodes, one in season 2 and one in season 3, that seem to hint that Chili had a miscarriage.
The creators of the show, however, have been silent on the rumors, which means it’s up to the viewers to take from the show what they need.
Between 10-20% of known pregnancies end in miscarriage, according to the Mayo Clinic, and many parents, it seems, are grateful to see the topic being addressed – whether or not it’s confirmed by the show’s creators.
What episode does Bluey talk about miscarriage?
The Show
In episode 19 of season 2, titled “The Show”, Bluey and Bingo put on a skit for Chili and Bandit for Mother’s Day.
In the skit, they reenact Chili and Bandit meeting for the first time, as well as the beginning of the marriage.
At one point in the show, the balloon, which represents Chili’s pregnancy with Bluey, under Bingo’s clothes accidentally pops.
Bandit quickly reaches for Chili’s hand when this happens, which has led many to speculate that Chili had a miscarriage prior to giving birth to Bluey and that Bandit was comforting her after the balloon popped.
Naysayers of the miscarriage theory believe that Bandit and Chili were simply expressing anxiety over Bingo’s anticipated reaction to the balloon popping.
Bedroom
Season 3’s first episode, titled “Bedroom”, is another clue that Chili may have had a miscarriage.
The episode starts off with Chili crying in a spare room where Bluey’s and Bingo’s old crib is being kept.
The kids ask why she’s crying and she answers that both Bluey and Bingo used to sleep in the crib and now nobody will sleep in it.
The episode is upbeat after the first scene and no further clues are provided about Chili possibly having a miscarriage.
This episode has been largely overlooked by viewers, as Chili refers to the room with the crib as a “spare room”, which many have accepted as a reasonable explanation.
Is Bluey a rainbow baby?
Many have speculated that Bluey is a rainbow baby (a baby conceived following a pregnancy or infant loss).
However, the signs in the show may actually point to Chili and Bandit having difficulty conceiving, and/or experiencing loss, after the 2 pups were born.
This isn’t to say both Bingo and Bluey, or just one or the other, couldn’t be rainbow babies.
Many families experience multiple losses throughout the process of growing their families.
If Bluey’s creators really did write in subtle hints that Chili had a miscarriage, good on them – survivors of pregnancy and infant loss needed to feel seen.
If viewers are taking something from the show that wasn’t intended, that’s ok, too.
